Bruny Island stretches for roughly 60 kilometres, yet the drives here are anything but fast. The sealed roads twist through the landscape and many of the smaller routes turn into gravel with tight bends and uneven surfaces. Unless you join a tour there’s no practical way to get around the whole island, so it’s best to bring your car across on the ferry. Life moves at a gentler pace here, and we encourage visitors to settle into that rhythm. Take your time and stay alert, because the roads often deliver surprises, from cyclists enjoying the scenery to an echidna wandering slowly across your path.
